3.0-Magnitude Tremor Rattles Tri-State Area
Magnitude 3.0 Earthquake Rattles Northern New Jersey, Felt Across NYC
A magnitude 3.0 earthquake shook parts of northern New Jersey late Saturday night, sending mild tremors across the region, according to the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS).
The quake struck at 10:18 p.m. with its epicenter in Hasbrouck Heights, N.J., near Teterboro Airport. Residents in New York City — including Brooklyn — Westchester County, and even parts of Connecticut reported feeling the brief shaking.
No injuries or structural damage have been reported, officials said. New York City’s Emergency Management Department advised residents who experienced the tremor to check for hazards such as shifted furniture, fallen objects, or cracks.
In Bergen County, which includes Hasbrouck Heights, the sheriff’s office confirmed there were no major impacts.
Earthquakes of this magnitude are uncommon in the region but can still startle residents unaccustomed to seismic activity.
